Kolkata: The West Bengal Scientific Institution Regulatory Fee on Monday awarded a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of a 39-year-old man who died of suicide, allegedly unable to bear the ache and monetary misery after his gallbladder surgical procedure went improper at a metropolis medical facility.

Later, he underwent two extra rectification surgical procedures and went to south India for additional therapy. He lodged a criticism with the fee on January 29, 2019.

“Once we took up the case on January 14, 2020, his spouse knowledgeable us that her husband had died of suicide. Evidently he suffered from immense ache and confronted an acute monetary crunch as a result of bills for his therapy,” stated Justice (retd) Ashim Kumar Banerjee, chairman WBCERC.
